Success Starts with Competent People — Or It Doesn’t Start at All

Success Starts with Competent People — Or It Doesn’t Start at All

There have been some serious leadership questions I've had to ask myself and also answer. These questions can not be ignored if you sincerely want to thrive in business.

As your shameless plug, I’ll be sharing them with you in upcoming posts. Like the popular saying "follow who know road".

Follow me as I share not just my challenges but also the things I’ve done to change the tide for myself as an entrepreneur.

One critical lesson?

Always—always—put competence first...

Competence saves you resources, and if you're like me and you hate surprises, it saves you unpleasant surprises.

Yes, you built the business from scratch.

No, that doesn’t mean you have all-round competence.

In fact, your real job is to find the most competent people—and shamelessly (yes, shamelessly) root for them.

When it comes to competence, everything else takes second place—even your own ego.
You must be able to smell bullshit quickly and cut it off. Because, like cancer, it spreads—and fast.

Your team is the core of your business.

Once you truly internalize this, you’ll start prioritizing bringing together the most competent people. No exceptions.

But competence isn’t just skill.
It’s discipline. It’s commitment. It’s the vision you’ve sold to your people.
It’s how you inspire them to do their best work.
It’s how you step aside and let them wow you.

Here’s the truth:
Competence isn’t chased. It’s attracted.

And money alone doesn’t attract it—your values do.
Are you a talk-and-do person?
Or are you just as incompetent as the people you’re afraid to fire?

Do you have the discipline to walk the talk with your team?
Or do you freeze the moment things go off-script?
